As Edward Deming so simply put it, “Plan-Do-Check-Act” describes the cycle of a learning organization. We engage in conversations around sustaining the momentum of the change at the very beginning and throughout the engagement. Change that is not sustained is seen as “the flavor of the month.” Organizations need to be conscientious about sustaining momentum by moving to a mindset of continuous improvement. This means making sure there is a continuing emphasis on strategic direction and internal process improvements. We often return to a client site to design and facilitate check-point meetings at six months or a year to make sure there is continuity of effort, appropriate reflection and adjustment, and celebration of success.
